Why TFC for BHRT

Three reasons prescribers send their BHRT patients here.

Exact dose, exact ratio

Not the off-the-shelf 100/200 mg. The 87.5 mg progesterone your prescriber wrote. With or without DHEA. Bi-Est 80/20 or 90/10 — whatever the chart says.

Free from common allergens

Dye-free, gluten-free, soy-free, peanut-free bases. Anhydrous when needed. We can usually accommodate any sensitivity you bring us.

Pharmacist follow-up

Pharmacist consultation included with every new BHRT compound. We walk through application, side effects, what to track, and when to call us.

Common BHRT formulas

A working list of what prescribers send us.

Every compound is prepared to your prescriber's specification — strengths, ratios, vehicle, and beyond-use date. Below are the formulas we fill most often.

Common questions

BHRT, frequently asked.

Does insurance cover compounded BHRT?

Sometimes, but not always. Many plans don't cover compounded hormones — they're considered "non-essential" by some PBMs. We bill your insurance first; if denied, we can quote a cash price after reviewing your prescription, depending on strength and base. We can also help submit prior authorization paperwork if your prescriber wants to appeal.

How long does a BHRT compound take to fill?

Turnaround depends on dosage form and complexity — non-sterile and sterile compounds follow different workflows. We'll confirm timing when you call or when we receive the prescription.

What's the beyond-use date (BUD) on my compound?

Per USP <795> guidelines, most non-sterile BHRT compounds carry a 90 – 180 day BUD depending on the base and active ingredient. The exact date is printed on your label. After that date, the compound may have lost potency and should not be used.

Can you compound to match my prescriber's exact protocol?

Yes — that's the whole point of compounding. Whatever your prescriber writes, we make. If the formula is unusual or new to us, our pharmacists will consult with the prescriber on excipients, vehicle, and stability before preparing.

I'm on a Kligman-style cream from another pharmacy. Can you continue it?

If you have a current Rx, yes. You can transfer it through our transfer flow or have your prescriber fax (323-348-4213). For new BHRT patients, we'll need a valid prescription on file before we can dispense.

Are bioidentical hormones the same as the prescription patches and pills?

Chemically, bioidentical hormones have the same molecular structure as the hormones your body produces. Many commercial products (oral micronized progesterone, estradiol patches) are also bioidentical. What compounding adds is custom-dosing and dosage form flexibility — strengths and bases not commercially available.

Ready to refill or transfer your BHRT compound?

If your prescriber has already written the script, you can transfer to TFC by phone or our transfer form. If you're a prescriber and want to consult on a new protocol, we'd love to talk.
